Where The Heck Have I Been? TheSpeedTrap Returns
Wow. If you didn’t know any better, this site would lead you to believe I had DIED or something. Well, worry-not, for thespeedtrap.net is back. With my return, the website is going to change a bit, with a new posting schedule and format, which you can read about on the updated—and aptly named—About page. What exactly am I returning from, though; why did I ever stop thespeedtrap.net?
The answer has two parts, one exciting, and one somewhat mundane. The exciting reason thespeedtrap.net went into an unexpected hibernation? Around the time I stopped writing for my own site, I had the opportunity to help Donut Media on YouTube write the scripts for a few of their episodes in the “Up to Speed”, “WheelHouse”, and “Science Garage” series.
Right off the bat, these are the Donut Media episodes I helped write:
Working with them was amazing, and the company is way more professional than they either let on, or than people think they are. Writing with Donut and all of those guys and gals was awesome, and it was refreshing to not be a one-man team. However, Donut needed somebody who was more local than I was, what with my coming down every other week or so and not being able to move, so we understandably parted ways.
The mundane reason? After writing for Donut and traveling to LA so often for them and my other work, I wanted a break to focus on my personal life, and to explore some other hobbies in the meantime. Well, life will…uh…find a way, and my hobby interests have been (somewhat) sated, so the break is OVER! My time away from thespeedtrap.net was not totally car-free, so expect a few “catch-up” articles in the near future, including a full introduction to my brand-new car: a 2018 Ford Mustang EcoBoost.

Yep, I ditched the Fiesta ST (not out of a lack of love, look for the full explanation in the Mustang’s intro article), and got something a little bit different. I didn’t stray far, and kept it in the Ford family, although not out of any brand loyalty: this Mustang simply ticked all the boxes I needed ticked, in the best way. As mentioned, my Mustang is NOT a 5.0 V8-equipped GT but is instead the supposedly-gas friendly 2.3L turbocharged 4-banger “Not-a-real-Mustang” Mustang. While this will surely anger LOTS of people, I love it, and it does EXACTLY what I need it to do (hint: the 5.0 would NOT have worked. Come back Wednesday to find out why).
So, while this is a pretty quick-and-dirty re-introduction to thespeedtrap.net, come back every Monday and Friday for some quality automotive content. This Friday will be the full introduction and first impressions of my 2018 Mustang Ecoboost. Going forward, the site is going to produce less content, so I can try and create more quality content. This includes the articles I write, the photos I take, and the stories I tell. Make sure to check out the About Tab above for the new posting schedule!
Here is to always improving.
It is good to be back!
